This test measures the amount of testosterone present in the blood. Testosterone is the primary hormone responsible for male sex characteristics such as body hair, sex drive, and muscle mass and bone density.

  • The kits are defined as “male” or “female” based on the methods used for collecting a sample from a biological male or a biological female.

Must be at least 18 years of age to purchase this test.

What is testosterone?

The pituitary gland in your brain controls the amount of testosterone your body makes. Testosterone is the primary androgenic hormone in the human body. It is responsible for the development of male sexual characteristics, such as genitalia and other characteristics. In females, it is a precursor molecule for estrogen synthesis.

Why do I need this test?

Consider taking a testosterone level test if you believe your testosterone levels aren’t within a normal range or if you are experiencing symptoms of a low testosterone level. The symptoms may include:

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Low energy
  • Bone loss
  • Infertility

Other signs of low testosterone may be poor concentration and memory; feeling sad or blue; insomnia; decreased energy, motivation, initiative, or self-confidence; decreased muscle mass and increased fat; diminished physical or work performance.

What will the test results tell me?

A testosterone level test is a test measuring the amount of testosterone in the blood and is reported as nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). A normal range is typically 300–1000 ng/dL. Low testosterone, or low T, is diagnosed when levels fall below 300 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL).

Do I need to do anything to prepare for this test?
