**Do not perform collection while taking antibiotics or within 7 days of taking antibiotics.  Do not perform collection while menstruating or within 24 hours of intercourse.**

  1. Female vaginal swab specimen collection:
    • Affix the barcode label to the transport tube
    • Write your PIN on the transport tube
    • Follow the vaginal swab package collection instructions to collect the specimen
    • Seal transport tube in one of the biohazard bags with desiccant pack and absorbent pads
  2. Male urine specimen collection:
    • Affix the barcode label to the transport tube
    • Write your PIN on the transport tube
    • Follow the urine collection instructions to collect the specimen
    • Seal transport tube in one of the biohazard bags with desiccant pack and absorbent pad
  3. Blood Sample collection:
    • Affix the barcode label to the blood card top flap
    • Write your 2 digit PIN on the blood card
    • Follow the blood sample collection instructions to collect the specimen
    • Seal blood card in one of the biohazard bags with desiccant pack and absorbent pad
  4. Place the sealed biohazard bags in the box and seal the box
  5. Place the sealed box in the pre-paid FedEx Clinical Pak and seal Clinical Pak
  6. Ship package to lab from any FedEx pickup location
  7. You will receive an email when your test results are ready

Please note:

Transport Tube:

  • Female:  Do not collect specimen while menstruating. No urine is required. Disregard urine level marks on Transport Tube.  Do not pour preservative out of tube.
  • Male:  Ensure urine level is between lines.  Do not pour preservative out of tube.
  • Barcode must be placed on Transport Tube.
  • PIN* must be written on Transport Tube.
  • Ensure Transport Tube cap is tight to prevent leakage.
  • Transport Tube must be placed in biohazard bag with desiccant pack and absorbent pad.  Squeeze air out of biohazard bag before sealing zip top and ensure zip top is completely closed.

Blood Card:

  • Do not touch the sample collection area of the Blood Card with your fingers.
  • Barcode must be placed on Blood Card.
  • PIN must be written on Blood Card.
  • All five blood circles must be completely filled to ensure enough specimen for testing. Rinse hands with warm water then shake vigorously to ensure good blood flow to fingers.
  • Let blood spots air dry for 10 minutes. DO NOT heat dry in any manner, i.e. hairdryer, as this will damage the sample.
  • Blood Card must be placed in biohazard bag with desiccant pack and absorbent pad. Squeeze air out of biohazard bag before sealing zip top and ensure zip top is completely closed.

Shipping Samples:

  • Place both biohazard bags in kit box.  All other materials may be discarded.  Use adhesive strip to seal box.  Press flap with adhesive firmly against box to ensure secure bond.  Place box in pre-paid overnight FedEx Clinical Pak and seal.

What will my test results say?

Results will show Detected, Not Detected or Indeterminate

  • Detected generally means Positive.
  • Not Detected generally means Negative.
  • Indeterminate indicates that the test results were inconclusive. Follow up with repeat testing or with your physician.

Note:  The incubation period for some sexually transmitted infections varies from two weeks to three months from time of contact.
